Philadelphia senior star punts with left foot, kicks field goals with right

There are plenty of oddities that come up during the course of the football season, so it takes something special to make prep football news in May. Yet something special has definitely arrived in Philadelphia, where one kicker will serve as both the punter and kicker for a Public League all-star team, with one major catch: He'll punt left-footed and kick field goals and extra points with his right foot. Yes, you read that correctly: America, we have an ambipedal all-star football kicker.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News' Ted Silary, the talented teen in question is Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast High senior Howard Lynn, who was a third-team all-area selection as a punter after his final prep season. That honor wasn't intended to overshadow his placekicking acumen, with Lynn racking up some 70 points as a placekicker from his sophomore through senior seasons.

How did Lynn, who does everything else in his life right-handed, end up as a left-footed punter? The reason has everything to do with the other fall sport he continues to compete in: soccer.

Shortly after Lynn began his soccer career, the Philadelphia athlete took a liking to playing between the pipes in goal. Because he was right-handed, it felt natural for Lynn to drop the ball down to his left foot when he drilled the ball out of his team's defensive zone. Those boots up the soccer pitch gave way to punts on the football field, which naturally came from the same left foot he used to kick soccer balls. The results were impressive, with punts that earned plenty of plaudits from other Philadelphia coaches.

"Legit boomers come off that kid's foot," Philadelphia (Pa.) Simon Gratz School football coach Erik Gratz told the Daily News.

For at least one more game, boomers will continue to come off of Lynn's left foot, all while any extra points or field goals come off his right. After that he'll head to nearby Lock Haven University, where he plans to major in business and could end up playing for the school's football team, soccer team or baseball program (he's a starting first baseman and pitcher for Northeast).

Daftar Jenis Mobil yang Boleh Pakai Premium

Ditengah ramainya isu berita pembatasan BBM khususnya premium untuk mobil tertentu memang sangat mengundang perhatian semua masyarakat baik yang mempunyai mobil maupun yang tidak mempunayi mobil. Menteri Perindustrian M.S Hidayat memastikan bahwa pembatasan bahan bakar minyak (BBM) bersubsidi pasti akan dilakukan pemerintah. Namun, dia belum mau mengungkapkan kapan pemerintah mau menerapkan pembatasan itu untuk menjaga tingkat konsumsi BBM bersubsidi 40 juta kiloliter.

"Secara resmi akan diumumkan pada Mei nanti,” kata Hidayat ketika dikonfirmasi wartawan, di Jakarta, Rabu, 25 April 2012.

Meski belum jelas kapan pembatasan BBM bersubsidi mulai dijalankan, namun Hidayat memastikan bahwa pembatasan tetap akan dilakukan berdasarkan kapasitas mesin mobil. »Iya pembatasan akan dilakukan di situ, untuk kendaraan roda empat dengan kapasitas 1.500 cc ke atas,” ujarnya.

Berdasarkan riset Tempo, ada sejumlah jenis mobil dari berbagai merek yang mesinnya di bawah 1.500 cc. Lihat daftar mobil di tabel bawah.

Batalnya penyesuaian harga menyebabkan BBM bersubsidi yang dijual akan terus melebihi kuota. Dalam postur APBNP 2012, subsidi bahan bakar minyak sebesar Rp 137,38 triliun dan subsidi listrik Rp 64,9 triliun. Adapun kuota BBM bersubsidi 40 juta kilo liter.

Untuk menjaga kuota, berbagai opsi sempat dikaji, salah satunya pembatasan penggunaan BBM bersubsidi untuk mobil pribadi dengan kapasitas silinder mesin diatas 1500 cc. Lewat cara ini diasumsikan ada penghematan bahan bakar antara 2-3 jut kiloliter.

Sementara itu, Ketua Gabungan Industri Kendaraan Bermotor Indonesia (Gaikindo), Sudirman Maman Rusdi mengatakan pihaknya masih menunggu keputusan jelas dari pemerintah soal pemberlakuan pembatasan BBM bersubsidi.

Menurut dia, meskipun pemerintah akan membatasi konsumsi BBM bersubsidi namun Gaikindo tidak akan membatasi permintaan. »Tergantung permintaan pasar, mulai 1.000 cc, 1.400 cc, atau masing-masing merek aan menyesuaikan permintaan pasar dengan kapasitas pabriknya,” kata Sudirman.Dia meminta pemerintah segera memberikan klarifikasi dan informasi jelas mengenai kebijakan pengendalian konsumsi BBM bersubsidi.

Sedangkan untuk konvesi BBM ke bahan bakar gas (BBG), lanjutnya, Gaikindo bersedia membantu pemerintah untuk memasang alat konversi (converter kit) di bengkel-bengkel resmi yang telah ditunjuk. »Converter kit ini juga harus sesuai dengan masing-masing kendaraan,” ujarnya.


Gaikindo, kata dia, sudah diajak bicara oleh Kementerian Perindustrian, namun belum mengetahu teknis pastinya. »Arahannya belum jelas.”

Resa, karyawan di Gedung Aldevco Octagon mengaku merasakan getaran selama 5 detik. "Getarannya terasa," katanya yang tengah bertugas malam. Hal tersebut membuat warga jakarta panik akan terjadinya gempa tersebut, karena jarang-jarang ada gempa di Jakarta. Banyak orang yang berhamburan keluar gedung ingin menyelamatkan diri jika terjadi sesuatu karena gempa tersebut
